&lt;p&gt;This has happened to my sister in the fairly recent past; one of our beloved national newspapers appropriated a bunch of photos she&#039;d taken without bothering to attempt to get in touch with her (and it would not have been difficult). She&#039;s invoicing them for NUJ rates for their use.&lt;/p&gt;
