My sound disappeared after upgrading from Firefox to Iceweasel. Irritating, but the problem is easily solved:

Ensure that alsa-oss is installed. Then, edit /etc/iceweasel/iceweaselrc and set:

ICEWEASEL_DSP="aoss"
